Polar Vortex Hits Midwest

Today and this past weekend the midwest has been hit with bitter cold. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Northern Illinois are the hardest hit this morning with wind chills in the -50 degree range(see map). What meteorologists call a “Polar Vortex” of cold air has hit the midwest. Cold temps have even extended into the panhandle of Florida. Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, and the Northeast have all seen large amounts of snow. This morning, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport registered a temperature of -15, four degrees colder than the South Pole. Law Enforcement and local municipalities across the Midwest have urged people to stay at home if at all possible due to the extreme weather.
